Physical donations are incredibly important to us.
Every time the Happy Bus delivers our rescue pups, we fill the bus back up with physical donations so that the shelters and our teams in Portugal don’t have to struggle. We also ensure that our fosterers receive some of the donations, which helps them to feed and care for their foster dogs.

Portugal has a huge problem with abandoned and neglected dogs. Many pets aren’t neutered and live an outdoor life, which results in 1000’s of unwanted litters that are often left on the streets to fend for themselves. Combine this with animal cruelty, especially when the hunting season has finished and hunters no longer have a purpose for their dogs, and the shelters are always at capacity.
We look to find homes for mostly unwanted puppies, and also their Mums, and pay to spay / neuter another dog from each adoption fee. However, there are many other financial burdens on the shelters we support in addition to just caring for the new litters…. older dogs that struggle to find homes, vet & food bills, to name but a few.
There is a huge amount of pressure on rescue centres in Portugal, many of which struggle to keep up with the numbers of stray, abandoned and abused dogs. There is virtually no government funding or support. We are very grateful for any financial donation you are able to make and 100% of your money goes towards our rescue operations as we are a not-for-profit charity run mainly by volunteers.
