🐾 Could Moose be the rescue dog for you?🐾
Moose is a handsome six-year-old adult rescue dog looking for a calm, understanding new home. He is a Labrador-type dog weighing around 25kg and has lived with the same family since he was originally adopted six years ago.
Moose is a very well-trained, intelligent and loyal dog who knows his manners and is affectionate with the people he knows. He enjoys his walks, loves being part of family life and, in the right environment, is a really lovely dog to have around.
A sensitive dog who appreciates his own space
Moose has always been a slightly sensitive and nervous boy. He joined his family during the lockdown period, when opportunities for normal socialisation were much more limited, and he has always appreciated having somewhere quiet where he can retreat and relax.
Over the last couple of years, life in his home has changed considerably. His family now have a two-year-old child and are expecting their second baby in December. As their household has naturally become busier and less predictable, Moose has found some aspects of family life more difficult.
Recently, their toddler went into Moose’s safe space and Moose growled at her.
Growling is a normal way for a dog to communicate that they are uncomfortable and need some space. Moose did not bite or attempt to hurt her, but the incident understandably knocked his family’s confidence, particularly with another baby arriving soon.
After a great deal of thought, they have therefore asked DogsnHomes Rescue to help find Moose a home that is better suited to the dog he is today.
This isn’t about Moose being a bad dog, nor is it about blaming his family. Sometimes circumstances simply change, and a home that worked perfectly for a dog several years ago may no longer be the environment in which they are happiest.
What sort of home does Moose need?
Moose would now benefit from a calmer home without young children, where life is a little more predictable and where his boundaries and safe space can be respected.
He has shown some resource guarding around food when unfamiliar people are in his home. This is not something he routinely displays with the people he knows, but his new family will need to understand canine body language and manage situations around food sensibly.
For that reason, we are looking for a dog-savvy home with people who are confident around dogs and understand that nervous or sensitive dogs sometimes need a little more space and reassurance.
For the right person, Moose offers many of the advantages of adopting an adult rescue dog. He is already house-trained, very well trained, understands how to live in a home and has moved well beyond the demanding puppy stage.
Could Moose be the right rescue dog for you?
This lovely Labrador-type rescue dog still has plenty of adventures ahead of him.
At six years old, Moose is looking for someone who will appreciate the dog he already is rather than expecting him to cope with situations he finds difficult. In a settled, predictable home with people who understand him, we think Moose could absolutely thrive.
He needs someone who can offer him security, companionship, enjoyable walks and, importantly, somewhere of his own where he knows he can relax undisturbed.
Moose is an adult dog for adoption within our usual rehoming area around Fleet, Hampshire, so that DogsnHomes Rescue can continue to provide support throughout his life.
