Meet Beanie, a loving small rescue dog for adoption
Beanie is almost two years old, with a wonderfully scruffy coat, a fluffy little face and a knack for making friends quickly. He’s a sweet, affectionate boy who gets on well with people and other dogs. He loves a cuddle, but he also has an independent streak and is happy to do his own thing. He’s currently with our team in Portugal and is due to arrive in a few weeks’ time.
From the streets of Lagoa to a spot near the kitchen
Beanie was found wandering the streets of Lagoa, in Portugal’s Algarve. When nobody came forward to claim him, our team in Portugal took him into their care. He’s now sharing his days with more than 50 other dogs and has ten acres to roam around in.
With all that space, you might think Beanie would spend his days seeing how far he could go. Like most of the dogs there, though, he tends to stay close to the house. That’s where the kitchen is, and Beanie has clearly worked out that there are advantages to keeping it within easy reach. Ten acres to explore and, given the choice, he’d rather be where the food is. You can hardly blame him.
A friendly little dog with an independent streak
Beanie makes friends quickly, whether they’re people or other dogs. He has plenty of canine company where he is now, and he gets on well with the dogs he mixes with. When there’s a person around and a cuddle on offer, he’s happy to take them up on it. Then, when he feels like doing his own thing, he’s equally happy to potter off.
That mix of affection and independence is one of the lovely things about him. There’s his soft, fluffy side when he’s having a cuddle, and then there’s the little dog who’s quite content to make his own decisions about where to spend his time. At the moment, a lot of those decisions seem to lead him back towards the kitchen.
And then there’s that face. With his dark eyes, wispy ears and fur that sticks up in all directions, Beanie has the look of a dog who’s just got out of bed, even when he’s wide awake and keeping an eye on what’s going on.
Beanie’s health and travel preparations
Beanie was recently castrated. He’ll arrive fully vaccinated and health-checked, with his own Portuguese passport. Before travelling, he’ll have a laboratory test for canine brucellosis and a Uranotest Quattro screen. This checks for Leishmania infantum, Ehrlichia canis, Anaplasma and heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) antigen.
Could Beanie be the dog for you?
If you’re looking for a small rescue dog for adoption in Hampshire and like the sound of a friendly, scruffy boy who enjoys company as much as a potter of his own, we’d love to hear from you. If you already have a dog, tell us a little about them in your application. It helps us get a picture of your household and talk through whether Beanie could be a good fit.
For now, Beanie knows his way around ten acres in Portugal and exactly where to find the kitchen. In his new home, he’ll have a different routine to learn, from where his bed is to when it’s time for a walk. We’d love to find him a home that will give him time to settle and get to know his new surroundings at his own pace. If you’re applying for Beanie, who is a small rescue dog for adoption, tell us what a typical day looks like in your household so we can get a feel for the life you’d be offering him.
Beanie is due to arrive in a few weeks, and you can apply before he travels. We generally rehome within about an hour of Church Crookham, Hampshire. If you’d like to be considered for Beanie, please complete our adoption form. Please do consult our FAQ’s to check our adoption criteria.
