Hansel - Adopt me!

Hansel and Gretel were handed into a public shelter recently in the Algarve and both were whisked away by our Portuguese team to the private shelter as the public shelter was no place for such young gentle puppies to spend any time, let alone Christmas.  Gretel was adopted soon after she arrived and Hansel, is now in foster in Fleet, Hampshire, UK and is looking for his furever home.

He is a very calm laid back little lad, loves other dogs and is very very affectionate. He squirms his way to the front of the queue if there's any love to be had and is the first onto your lap on the sofa. He is currently living with three other dogs and is virtually house trained. He is good on a lead, good in the car and is slightly shy of new experiences but as he has only been in the UK for a week, there's a lot to take in.

Hansel is so gentle and calm he wouldn't suit a family with young children.

He is 4 months old and is in good health, having been fully vaccinated, treated for worms, ticks and fleas, microchipped and comes with his own passport.

We like all our adopters to be close, within 30mins of GU52 8LA.

Size: Estimated to be around 20/22kgs when fully grown

Cat Tested: Not been cat tested - but he is very gentle

Date of Birth: 21st July 2020

Adopters should live within 30mins drive of Fleet as we like all our adoptions to be local. If interested in giving him home, please complete our Adoption Form.

COVID- 19 - Until further notice adopters need to live within 30mins of GU52.

FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN UNDER 10  - The shelters in Portugal are also in lockdown and this prevents people visiting the shelter. Until children are able to meet the puppies and our fosterers assess their reactions, we will not be adopting to families with children under the age of 10 until things return to normal.

How we import the dogs

As a registered Charity all our dogs are imported legally under the Balai Directive, which require the dogs to be fully vaccinated and have a microchip, rabies vaccine, veterinary health check 48hours before dispatch and an Intra-Trade Animal Health Certificate (ITAHC) completed by an Official Veterinarian. The dogs also come from registered or approved premises.

We also go above the statutory minimum and carry out a blood analysis to screen for Ehrlichia, Anaplasma, Lyme disease & Heartworm. We also test for Leishmania.

Finally, the ‘Happy Buses’ we use, are fully approved commercial operators traveling either under a DEFRA Type 2 Licence for transporting live animals for journey times in excess of 8 hours or the equivalent type licence issued by the Portuguese DGAV.
