Billy - Adopt me!
Billy was found at the public shelter and stood out as a very young, small and friendly lad. He is friendly to everyone he meets but particularly likes men.
His first owners were a young family who got him to entertain their young kids, but they treated him like a toy and when he had enough of being tormented he growled when he started to protect his treats they threw him out. He is not in anyway aggressive but needs a family without young children and a family that can help him with his resource guarding. He is in foster and plays well with other dogs and even if he growls to protect a high value item, if another puppy takes it off him, he doesn't over-react.
He loves to play with the bigger dogs, which is good as most other dogs, even puppies are bigger than him. The ideal home would have another playful dog for companionship.
He is around a year old, castrated and is in good health.

FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN UNDER 10 - The shelters in Portugal are also in lockdown and this prevents people visiting the shelter. Until children are able to meet the puppies and our fosterers assess their reactions, we will not be adopting to families with children under the age of 10 until things return to normal.
How we import the dogs
As a registered Charity all our dogs are imported legally under the Balai Directive, which require the dogs to be fully vaccinated and have a microchip, rabies vaccine, veterinary health check 48hours before dispatch and an Intra-Trade Animal Health Certificate (ITAHC) completed by an Official Veterinarian. The dogs also come from registered or approved premises.
We also go above the statutory minimum and carry out a blood analysis to screen for Ehrlichia, Anaplasma, Lyme disease & Heartworm. We also test for Leishmania.
Finally, the ‘Happy Buses’ we use, are fully approved commercial operators traveling either under a DEFRA Type 2 Licence for transporting live animals for journey times in excess of 8 hours or the equivalent type licence issued by the Portuguese DGAV.
